All 7th grade students at Southport are required to complete a science fair project. This project will make up 10% of the student's grade for both the 1st and 2nd quarters. Completing a science project requires that a process be followed. It is that process that students will be expected to adhere to. For this reason, the student's project will be graded as a series of smaller assignments. One assignment cannot be started before the prior assignment has been completed and approved. If a student has not completed any of the 1st quarter assignments by Oct. 11th, they will not be permitted to turn in a final project (a science fair backboard) during the 2nd quarter. These students will be offered an alternative assignment that they can recieve no higher than a 75% for their science project portion of the 2nd quarter.
